Zone Conference and Losing Weight!! (Week 49)

Hello friends and family!!

We had an awesome week this week!

Wednesday was Zone Conference. This was the first zone conference that I had outside the mission office! It was an awesome meeting. I gave a super cool training. I was teaching about our standards of excellence or our weekly standard in the mission. I then taught about the importance of setting goals and really using goals daily to reach our full potential; really through small things like goals, we can accomplish great miracles.  But here's the fun part. I was thinking about how I could teach all these principles in a fun way in which everybody would remember the training. So, I went to the LAN house and made a quick graph, of my weight over 10 months in the mission. This graph is hilarious and worked soo good to teach these principles. Ill have it attached to this email.

After the Zone Conference, we all ate hot dogs. Hot Dogs here are a lot different than in the States. They have meat, corn, cream cheese, and little french fries. They're pretty good!

We've been continuing to work with the zone to reach our potential. We are excited to for this next week, as we are planning for a lot of baptisms.

Been working with an awesome couple! Tiago and Izanilde, and two young ladies Rafaela and Lillian. They are all ready to be baptized!  Please pray for them so everything can go well for the baptism this Saturday!

We will have a ward conference this weekend. I will play the piano. Wish me luck!!

Everything's going awesome here! The mission is the best! Enjoy the pictures.

New Area and Interviews (Week 48)

Hello Family and Friends!!!

It was a blast to be able to talk with my family on Fathers Day!!!  Happy Fathers Day Dad!!!
Also a Big Early Happy Birthday to my Mom!! She is the best. On the mission, I am working to become a lot more like Christ!! But I'm feeling that I'm just becoming more like my parents!!!

So this week I challenged the zone on Tuesday to dig into to the area book and to work super hard so that by Thursday/Friday, every companionship would have arranged 3 baptismal interviews. Then on Thursday and Friday, my companion and I, and the district leaders would go and do interviews all Thursday and Friday.
We were able to find many ancient investigators and some baptisms too!!

This week I interviewed 5 people. Jose was one of them. He is 74 years old. He is in the Sisters area. The interview was incredible. The Spirit was so strong. As Missionaries, we have a front row seat to see the atonement of Jesus Christ in action. Jose was so humble throughout this interview. His prayer at the end brought us to tears. Jose was baptized this weekend. Don't really have the words to describe this experience.

I also had the opportunity to interview a couple that will be baptized this next week. They will be married this week as they can't be baptized until they are married. It was great to interview them both and teach about the Law of Chasity and to help them understand the importance of this law. I really felt at the end that I was marrying them when I was filling out the baptismal paperwork! hahaha

We will have a zone conference this week! Super pumped! Will have a sic training prepared!!

Love You all!

The São Luiz East Zone!!!

Elder Cardoso is super funny. He's Brazilian and doesn't like rice and beans. But he loves American pancakes with condensed milk.

We looked through all the records in the area book and the old area books!!

New Area--I'm on the Coast (Week 47)

Howdy Family!!

I hope everything is going well back in the States!!!

The Fortaleza temple dedication was incredible. I don't have the words to describe it. I want to watch it again!

José, the blind man that we baptized a couple of weeks ago cut his hair this past Saturday; three years of hair. He wanted me to cut it but unfortunately, I was transferred.

So now I'm a zone leader in São Luiz. It's nine hours from my last area in Timon. After our leadership meeting on Monday, we went to the bus station to take a nine-hour overnight bus ride. We arrived in São Luiz on Tuesday around six in the morning. My companion is Elder Cardoso. He's from São Paulo!
Sao Luiz is really close to the coast; was able to see the sea the other day! It's super pretty here and the ocean breeze is awesome! Have a lot of work to do in our area. Arrived here without one investigator. So this week did some serious finding.
It's amazing how much the culture, food, and climate changes only 9 hours away. Everything's different. Having to learn a whole new set of words and slangs. Its been pretty fun.
Time is flying on the mission. Today I realized that I have been out for 11 months. Whatttt??!!  Sad that the time is going so fast but excited for what the next year has!!

Hope all is well! You all have a great week!!!

Would like to thank you all for all your emails! They are the best!

Love,

Elder Hillam
